A Tribute to Courage
Dedicated to the Americans and Filipinos who served in
defense of democracy in the Philippines during World War II - especially
in Bataan and Corregidor and on the infamous Death March...."
What is the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial?
The
Bataan-Corregidor Memorial is a project of the Filipino-American
community with the help of the City of Kissimmee.
It is a two-phase project comprising a monument which upon completion
and with donations coming in, will be followed by a memorial hall.
The memorial will feature a life-size bronze statue of a Death March
scene involving an American soldier, a Filipino soldier and Filipino
woman.
The memorial hall will be the second leg of the project. It will
house exhibits, souvenirs and memorabilia relating to all wars in which
the United States and the Philippines fought side by side.
The hall will be used for cultural, charitable, educational, civic and
social functions and will likewise feature Philippine cultural and
historical exhibits.
The joint American and Filipino forces engaged the enemy throughout the
Philippines in World War II. However, it was in Bataan and
Corregidor where their friendship and cooperation reached its peak,
making it all the more fitting to call the project the Bataan-Corregidor
Memorial.
